Souvenir. A little keepsake that we pick up on vacation. But also, in french, a verb that means "to remember."
Why does the play between those two meanings evoke such a feeling of tenderness in me? Is it because we buy these little things to try to hold onto moments that we know are fleeting and will never come again?
A Moveable Feast
“As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy and to make plans.” ― Ernest Hemingway

Meet the Artist
California-based artist Anne-Louise Ewen paints vivacious gestural works that emphasize brush work, color and above all, freedom. Ewen’s work includes paintings, mixed-media hand-painted multiples, drawings, sculpture, ceramics, and books.
In 2020 she moved house and studio from Los Angeles to Joshua Tree, a scrappy artistic community in the Mojave Desert.
