INSPIRATION
I remember waiting on the cobblestones by the sea for the ferry to take us (and our tiny Fiat rental car) to Elba on our honeymoon in Italy. This work is from the series of paintings I created to accompany Novella, the new album by my creative collaborator and husband, Tyler Sabbag. The album "plays like a half-remembered summer set against the Mediterranean coast, an enchanting dreamscape shaped more by longing than historical fact." In the painting studio, the music translated to a sense of romance and nostalgia, a Mediterranean sensibility—old world, sun-warmed, with traces of citrus and the atmosphere of Italian cinema.
